Keeping Birth Simple

It can be overwhelming when you start researching all the things you "have to do" to be prepared for birth. I'm here to make it uncomplicated.

  1. Decide now that you can do this. Remember you were uniquely created to birth your baby. Trust in your ability to cope with labor. Treat it as a fact. Write 3 sentences confirming your ability to birth your baby. Read them out loud every morning and night.

  2. Pick ONE breathing technique to practice. I recommend "Box breathing". Commit to practicing it daily for 10 minutes. As your falling asleep and trying to quiet your mind is a great time to practice your breathing. Practicing this very simple skill will be invaluable as you work through labor.

  3. Create a simple birth plan of the top 2 or 3 things that matter most for your birth. Keep it simple. Take time to discuss these with your birth support team. These will be the most important things to you when things get intense.

  4. Take time to discuss your needs and expectations with your birth partner. Ask them what they think you will need. Help them to understand your needs.

  5. Understand that when labor begins it will be exciting but you don't need to do anything unique. Your job will be to rest, relax and surrender to the process. Take it one minute at at time. One surge at a time.
